The Washington Wizards Guard Gilbert Arenas, who had used his high offensive play against the Suns, scored 31 points, but he started off with only 1 for 6, and the game was essentially over before he got it started. The Suns responded with a 6 and 0 run to put the game back to where it belonged.

Phoenix Suns shot a season high 60.8%, had assists on 35 of their 48 field goals and had five players in double figures before halftime hit. Steve Nash was 7 for 7 from the field and had 8 assists in the first half of the game.
The Phoenix suns players started off with 3 for 15 from the field, and Steve Nash with an amazing alley-oop assists to Shawn Marion, shined the court in the second quarter, helping the Suns to a 25 point game lead (76-51). Forward Caron Butler led the Wizards with a 9-0 run in the third quarter, cutting the lead to 19, and Butler's steal and dunk narrowed the lead to 15 later in the period. But every time Washington threatened to end the game, the Suns would respond with a blazing fast break lay-up or a magical 3-point shot beyond the arc.
Shawn Marion finished with 21 points on 9 for 11, and Raja Bell on the other hand, also had 21 points for the Suns, who were opening a 5 game trip. Butler added 24 points for the Wizards who had won the eastern conference 10 game record at the Veriozon center.
